Your Opportunity

Our Bellevue, WA office is seeking an experienced Industrial Water Treatment Process Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team of water professionals, each committed to delivering sound and strategic consulting services to a range of clients. The Bellevue office is part of Stantec’s Mountain West Region team consisting of more than 250 water professionals working together to produce high quality deliverables on projects throughout the region. As an Industrial Water Treatment Process Engineer, you will work in a supportive team environment and have exposure to water treatment technology selection, reuse management, testing and evaluation, modeling, and design projects, that include industrial water treatment plants, pipelines, and pump stations. You will be involved in planning, design, and construction of critical infrastructure projects, including new facilities and rehabilitation and upgrades of existing facilities. You will work with Stantec team members throughout the Mountain West and other US location and will be connected to our global expertise.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake Industrial Water/Wastewater system planning and design, consult with clients and other consultants.
  • Support and lead proposal and other business development efforts.
  • Prepare costing analysis for industrial water and/or wastewater treatment projects. Prepare construction specifications, tender documents, and applications for approvals.
  • Construction / contract administration knowledge.
  • Meet with clients, municipal officials, and contractors to review project needs and coordinate field conditions.
  • Support in managing project schedules and budgets.
  • Manage the process for obtaining approvals from various agencies.
  • Write reports and design briefs to document analyses.
  • Coordinate presentation and design drawings.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Can work well in a team environment without direct supervision
  • Possess a hard-working and positive attitude, open to mentoring junior engineers
  • Ability to translate industrial process into clear diagrams
  • Onsite / in-field work experience, especially at industrial sites, and plants, can conduct and direct field evaluations and data collection tasks.
  • Can direct other staff and resources to accomplish tasks and project goals.
  • Has the ability to travel, as required for project, client and business development needs within the region (10%).
  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of water and wastewater treatment engineering design (industrial and/or municipal) including process drawings and calculations, water quality (including chemical, physical, and biological parameters), and equipment selection.
  • Experience with chemical and process simulation modelling considered an asset (hydraulic modelling, etc.).
  • Completion of a master’s degree in Water/Wastewater Treatment considered an asset.
  • Relevant work experience in industrial water/wastewater treatment projects is an asset.
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production, client procurement procedures, and regulatory approval processes.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, equipment suppliers/vendors, funding agencies and reviewing agencies; to deliver technical presentations in public forums in conferences and technical symposia.
  • Possess excellent time-management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and available resources.
  • Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and Adobe.

Education and Experience

  • Must have a bachelor’s in chemical, mechanical or Civil Engineering field.
  • Professional Engineer in WA or other states (ID, OR, MT are also a plus).
  • Project management and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering analysis and design of water, wastewater systems.
  • Must be self-motivated individual possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Experience in providing construction support services, such as change in field conditions resolution, representing agencies at field meetings and observation of construction.
