Salary: $1,700.00 – $2,500.00 semi-monthly

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Geological Survey, and will be located at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City MO 65101.

What you’ll do:

  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate water resource data such as information on reservoir and lake storage used as a source for public drinking water.
  • Develop and modify hydrologic procedures and techniques to ensure optimal use of technologies.
  • Participate in development of surface and groundwater models, conduct predictive model runs, analyze water balances, analyze model results, and perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
  • Work as a team member on hydrologic investigations. Provide technical advice to hydrologic team on water resources problems.
  • Participate in the installation of field monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare concise, well written reports ensuring accurate data and model results for use within the department and for stakeholders.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental Science or Technology, Geology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field.

AND

  • 0 to four or more years of professional experience in environmental regulatory work, engineering, environmental science, geology, hydrology, or a closely related natural resources area. (Additional education or experience will be substitute for the required education and experience.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of hydrological principles, techniques, and procedures; of mathematics and statistics; and of the practical application of hydrology, and water management technologies.
  • Skill in scientific data management, in collecting and assessing hydrological data, in applying modeling and statistical procedures, in the use of a computer and applicable software, and in the use of standard tools of the profession.
  • Skilled in analysis, critical thinking, and problem solving with the ability to develop designs, evaluate data, perform in-depth data analyses, and prepare technical reports for review.  
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical information, analyze issues, and provide alternative solutions, testimony, and expert advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems and Hydrologic Engineer Center and other hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software preferred
