DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of SO/ESM the intern will be engaged in the following duties:
– Support hydrological monitoring aspects of Infrastructure Commission INFCOM , its Standing Committees and JET-HYDMON related to development of technical regulations and guidance material, (measurement techniques and uncertainties), data sharing, Data centres, Water Quality
– Assist in Project X support compiling materials, documentation, website updates
– Assist in reviewing and editing of technical regulations and guidance material
– Support in organising expert meetings and logistics, organize materials and folders
– Support the development of hydrological metadata both for observations and data exchange
– Assist in the ongoing developments for standardizations of hydrological management and exchange e.g WaterMl2.0, WIGOS standards and WCMP
– Assist in preparing meeting documents including the reports
– Other relevant duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Minimum requirement: Bachelor degree; Master’s degree preferred. Educational background in natural sciences and knowledge in hydrology or water resources management.

Experience
Some working experience/knowledge in hydrological monitoring, data management and exchange, measurements, network design, technical regulations or data systems is an advantage.

Other requirements
– Understanding the framework for water players and stakeholders, NMHS role
– Good communication and presenting skills
– Skilled user of standard MS software applications;
– Technical skills in hydrology (data analysis, measurement techniques, data systems) an advantage
– Ability to write/revise reports and organize meetings and contact experts
– Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and its specialized agencies such as WMO
– Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of other official WMO langauges is an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
