Senior Water Policy Analyst

Corvias Infrastructure Solutions, LLC (CIS)

The Senior Water Policy Analyst conducts analysis, review and writing for a portfolio of water policy and planning projects on a wide range of topics including federal and state financing of water infrastructure, replacement of lead pipes, affordability, environmental justice, and climate resiliency. Combining data analysis/visualization with a strong understanding of the water policy landscape, this role is accountable for transforming data and anecdotes into insights and actionable recommendations. The hire will also work with external partners in pursuit of regional or national projects that combine policy, planning, implementation, monitoring, and analysis of water quality issues.

This position reports to the Water Equity and Climate Resilience Director.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate information gathering and synthesis of critical policy-related data and information; ensure data accuracy integrity, and timeliness.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges. Understand metric interdependencies and present actionable recommendations to leaders.
  • Develop and manage an extensive network of contacts with water utilities, government agencies, and consulting and nonprofit partners.
  • Track and analyze existing and emerging water regulations and programs.
  • Identify and participate in industry working groups, associations, and collaborative networks to stay up-to date, gather industry intel, and share CIS’s work.
  • Conduct research to understand trends, market conditions, competitor landscape, and other factors which impact internal strategic direction. Use industry related operating metrics to evaluate, identify, and measure opportunities for value creation.
  • Responsible for meeting operations including agenda creation, meeting facilitation, minutes, and follow-up tasks, as necessary.
  • Support internal stakeholders including CIS leadership, Asset Management, Finance and Accounting with their needs for ongoing and ad hoc reporting, budget reviews, site visits, and analyses as needed.
  • Support the supervisor in communicating our work via reports, presentations, website updates, blog posts, op-eds, and social media posts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/policy/engineering or related field. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in any of the following areas: municipal water utility management, state or federal level water policy, philanthropic support for water infrastructure, community engagement on water services, or related areas.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data to make recommendations and drive business decisions.
  • Demonstrable analytical ability to interpret and analyze data, identify trends, and use data to connect operational and administrative activities to overall business strategies.
  • Ability to present information and provide concise explanations to internal and external audiences with varying levels of policy acumen.
  • Proven ability to manage timelines, delivery, and dependencies in a results-focused environment and influence outcomes without hierarchical authority.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with management and cross functional teams and establish collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • Flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic and matrixed environment.
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieve results with little oversight.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint is required.
  • Experience using data analysis and visualization software like Stata, R, Python, or ArcGIS preferred.

Position Location Requirements

Although our preference is to hire in the following metro areas: Washington DC, Los Angeles, Seattle, Milwaukee, Chicago, Kansas City, and Ann Arbor, we will consider strong candidates that are remote. The candidate is expected to join in-person meetings as required and should anticipate approximately 10% travel time throughout the year.

Salary and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80k to $110k however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary performance incentive.
