Please find more information below and submit your application no later than 13 April 2023.

Role and salary

UEF water research (UEF WATER) brings together researchers and research groups from various fields of science. The aims are to conduct research on a high international level and educate experts for water related fields. Furthermore, we aim to create an open innovation ecosystem, where stakeholders from the university, national research institutes, and water related businesses can meet and establish collaborative networks. By doing this, we aim to increase the impact of water related research and promote the sustainable use of water resources. Please read more about the UEF water research program here.

We are seeking for a highly motivated and ambitious Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the in the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology, on the Joensuu Campus.

The research aims to understanding novel drivers in population dynamics. As our new Postdoctoral Researcher, you will develop single or multispecies population models that incorporate environmental drivers and population genetic aspects in novel ways. Standard population dynamical theory is free of environmental and genetic drivers, while environmental stressors such as temperature, chemicals or emergent pollutants affect multiple life stages in ectothermic animals such as fish, and acknowledgement of genetic factors is critical for the long-term conservation of populations. The tactical modelling efforts aim to support the conservation of endangered landlocked salmonids in the area by addressing their minimum viable population sizes and the effect of fishing restrictions set to protect the endangered Saimaa ringed seal. The strategic modelling efforts aim at developing novel quantitative understanding on the population, community, and ecosystem level impacts of sublethal stressors acting at individual level.

In this position you will co-operate with the other researchers working in the research group, reflecting that work to the modelling approaches to be developed for water management purposes. UEF Water research program
