REPORTS TO: Pacific Northwest Education Coordinator
POSITION TYPE/HOURS: Seasonal / Full Time in Spring and Fall seasons / Part Time in the Summer
SALARY RANGE: $23-$25 per hour – depending on experience
DATE: Start April 3rd, 2023 and position will run until Nov. 3rd (7 months)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Watershed Educator (Educator) plays a key role in the development and delivery of Trout Unlimited’s Pacific Northwest Education Program, a multi-faceted educational outreach program that involves youth and young adults in Trout Unlimited’s angler-centric conservation mission. The Educator works closely with the PNW Education Coordinator to plan and deliver a series of sub-programs within Headwaters and the Pacific Northwest Education Program known as the Stream of Engagement. Additionally, the Educator develops, plans and carries out watershed education events for a host of youth participants, including K-12 students, Scout groups, College students, and tribal youth. This is a regional-level position with responsibilities for supporting volunteer leaders and youth program participants in the Pacific Northwest.
The job will require a high degree of coordination with fellow educators, teachers, and additional TU staff. A successful candidate will have a deep passion for trout and salmon conservation issues, as well as a background in K-12 education (with preference given for experience creating curriculum and managing field-based environmental or science education initiatives) and have demonstrated curriculum development and educational program delivery experience. The position location is based in Central Oregon.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate educational experiences with high priority conservation projects, connecting educational audiences and members
- Teach youth education participants in the field and in the classroom, catering to a diversity of learning styles and participant abilities
- Coordinate with Headwaters and Volunteer Operations Staff to implement programming in the Northwest and share curriculum with other staff
- Coordinate with other TU staff in the Northwest to integrate educational programming which is strategic for Northwest goals and priorities
- Serve as a resource for chapters and councils who would benefit from creating or building on existing youth education programs to engage their members and their communities in our mission
- Work with the PNW Education Coordinator and TU communications staff to raise the profile of regional education programs with both internal and external audiences
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required in biology, environmental education, environmental studies, science education, or a related field;
- Passion for environmental and conservation-based education, both in formal and informal settings
- Experience leading environmental education programming in the Northwest preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work effectively with others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite of applications and use of the Internet and social media
- Enthusiastic, energetic, personable and a friendly disposition
- Some knowledge of fly fishing a plus
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the region and attend numerous night and weekend program events
- Valid driver’s license and a dependable, insured automobile
- Candidates must pass a background check
