Position Title: Water System Maintenance Craftsman

Salary: Grade 6L, Step 5 – Starting at $18.00 per hour ($18.00 base hourly + $2.25 CDL-B license incentive and $.50 for Water Distribution License Grade 1)
Licenses/Certifications: MA CDL Class B and Water Distribution License Grade 1 Required (Class A Preferred, additional $3.00 license incentive on base rate)
SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Water Department is hiring a Water System Maintenance Craftsman that performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual work in the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of a water system including water mains, service connections, hydrants, meters and valves.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
• Install and repair water mains and appurtenances.
• Install and repair water service connections.
• Operate, clean and maintain tapping and drilling machines.
• Operate, clean and maintain pumping equipment used in the installation and maintenance of water mains and service connections.
• Repairs trenches and excavations by patching with bituminous and concrete materials.
• Installs, maintains, repairs and “winter checks” fire hydrants. Install and/or remove domestic, commercial and industrial meters.
• The ability to work in diverse conditions including but not limited to: rain, extreme heat, extreme cold, rugged landscape.
• Must be available to assist with snow removal operations, not only during normal working hours but also available evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Maintains material stock on utility truck as directed by the supervising authority.
• Performs all related duties as directed by Superintendent or other supervising authority.

QUALIFICATIONS
To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Two years’ experience as a Water Systems Maintenance Worker
• Working knowledge of a wide variety of hand tools, air tools and hydraulic tools
• MA CDL Class B License Required (CDL Class A preferred)
• Massachusetts Water License Grade 1 Required
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position, with a schedule of 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with required flexibility for on-call and emergency situations.
This role is classified as Grade 6L, Step 5, with a minimum starting pay of $20.75. per hour ($18.00 hourly base rate plus $2.25 for CDL-B license incentive and $.50 for Water Distribution Grade 1), with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
