Project Background

Climate Resilient Rural WASH (CRWASH), Water for Women (WfW) Project is a project funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and implemented by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. The goal of the project is to contribute to improved health, gender equality, social inclusion and well-being of 230,000 people in 3 districts of Savannakhet Province by equitably increasing access and use of safe sanitation and hygiene, for all via building capacity of governments and other key stakeholders to achieve these outcomes.

The second phase of the project will concentrate efforts on building climate resilience into existing improvements in sanitation and water systems, whilst enhancing efforts towards gender equity, disability and social inclusion (GESI). Activities will centre on building the capacity of local governments and/or key stakeholders to deliver outputs in communities, schools and health care facilities.

Objective of this position:

The WASH/GESI Advisor will assist the day-to-day implementation of the WASH activities in line with the annual plan, plus provide technical support and guidance to the team in Savannakhet on WASH and GESI project activities as well as liaising with national level key stakeholders under Ministry of Health.

Job Description

  • Coordinate with field staff to develop, document (Lao and English) and deliver to the Water Sector Leader and relevant authorities a monthly work plan
  • Coordinate with field staff to develop, document (Lao and English) and deliver to the Water Sector Leader and relevant authorities monthly project monitoring datasets
  • Assist in the compilation of monthly technical reports, program documents and budgets
  • Prepare activity advances and settlements
  • Provide technical guidance, training and support on WASH and GESI components to field staff
  • Assist communications team in delivering relevant summaries for external publication (eg social media, etc)
  • Supervise and contribute to the success of WASH activities implementation and perform any other duties as requested by Water Sector Leader

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in WASH, public health, GESI, engineering or a similar relevant field.

Experience and Skills:

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in donor funded projects
  • Previous experience in community-based water, sanitation programs
  • Knowledge and experience in sub-national coordination mechanisms, governance, and policy dialogues
  • Pro-active attitude and results orientation but also patience and ability to work well in cross-cultural teams
  • Excellent coordination, organisation/prioritisation ability, and focused results-focused
  • Strong teamwork and coaching orientation
  • Good English language (spoken and written)
  • Ability to write clear, effective project reports
  • Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

Additional Information

Reporting: The WASH/GESI Advisor reports to the Water Sector Leader and works in close collaboration with the CRWASH project team, government stakeholders and other relevant project stakeholders.

Assignment Location: The WASH/GESI Advisor shall be based in Vientiane with potential frequent travel to SNV project locations, and potentially elsewhere in the country.

Contract Duration     : Initial 1 year with possibility of extension

Contract Type            : National Employment Contract
