The Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated water, land and natural resource management and cross-sector legislation, policy, and objective setting for land and marine environments. Building on integrated land and resource management efforts in the past, the Ministry will seek to build a new vision in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base. The Ministry will strengthen integration across the sector to mitigate, plan, respond and adapt our management practices, including a focus on effectively managing cumulative effects. Responsible for providing resource and geographically based information and analysis, the Ministry supports timely, evidence-informed policy and decision-making and provides a pathway to balancing the goals of economic activity, environmental sustainability, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous people. Advancing cross ministry governance and bringing together multidisciplinary teams from across government, the Ministry will assist the sector in addressing the most challenging cross-sector initiatives and strategic priorities.

The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems Division works in partnership with Indigenous governments to modernize land use planning with community, stakeholder, and public input including operating and expanding Indigenous forums (e.g., Environmental Stewardship Initiative and Collaborative Stewardship Framework) and working with First Nations on collaborative stewardship of natural resources and monitoring of cumulative effects. This division chairs the Regional Management Committees and Indigenous Forums (e.g., Environmental Stewardship Initiative and Collaborative Stewardship Framework) throughout the province ensuring alignment between provincial and regional priorities.  This division is also responsible for conservation science, and ecosystem policy, and coordinating provincial species and ecosystems at risk management and recovery actions across the province. (e.g., Together for Wildlife Strategy).

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business administration, public administration, a natural resource management-related discipline or a related discipline and a minimum of 2 years’  related experience*; OR
  • A minimum of 6 years of related* experience OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
     

*Related experience must include:

  • Experience developing and managing strategic relationships with senior internal/external stakeholders for an organization of similar size and complexity.
  • Experience anticipating, mitigating and responding to high-profile, controversial issues.
  • Experience leading the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement and communications initiatives.
     

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Experience working with natural resource sector stakeholders.

This position can be based in any Water, Land and Resource Stewardship office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 or more days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
This position is excluded from union membership.
