Description

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring 18 environmental technicians throughout the state of Idaho to survey streams as part of our Beneficial Use Reconnaissance Program (BURP). Technicians work outdoors on three-person field crews and perform a variety of environmental monitoring activities. These activities include collecting quantitative stream data, performing qualitative habitat surveys, recording field data on tablets, and sampling fish and aquatic insect populations.
 
 Crews will work and camp at remote locations for three or more nights per week and are required to furnish their own camping and cooking equipment. Applicants must be available June 1st through September (there is some flexibility on end date for students who need to return to school).

These positions are temporary, full-time appointments without benefits.

$15 Hourly Salary + up to $55.00/day additional per diem.

Example of Duties

  • Working outdoors
  • Monitoring water quality
  • Sampling fish and aquatic insect populations
  • Electro-fishing surveys
  • Surveying habitat quality
  • May involve working at high altitudes
  • Typically working ten (10) hour days four (4) days in a row, with up to three (3) days off
  • May involve working up to eight (8) days on with four (4) days off

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work during exposure to inclement weather.
  • Ability to walk over rough terrain while lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to hike in hip boots/waders over rough terrain and in streams, sometimes at high altitudes.
  • Needed to work June – September 2023 (end date flexible for students)
