New York Rural Water Association, Inc. (NYRWA) is currently accepting resumes for a Source Water Protection SpecialistThe role of the Source Water Protection Specialist is to assist rural and small communities served by public water systems to reduce or eliminate the potential risks to drinking water supplies through the development of Source Water Protection Plans and providing assistance to entities for the implementation of contamination prevention measures. The NYRWA is a not-for-profit founded in 1979 that provides training and technical assistance to small rural water and wastewater systems and operators across New York State.

Minimum Requirements:

– Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the willingness to travel extensively within New York State and provide presentations at evening meetings.

– The ability to plan, facilitate and mediate meetings toward a consensus.

– Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geography, geology, geographic information systems, or a related field.

– Technical knowledge of surface water, ground water, and the public water supply with experience in water resource and watershed protection or land use planning.

– Must be organized in planning, scheduling, and records management.

– Competence in GIS is required, particularly with ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online.

Typical Duties:

– Plans and facilitates an annual meeting with multiple agencies (USDA FSA, NYSDOH, NYSDEC, USDA NRCS, NYS Dept. of Ag & Markets, and NYS Dept. of State) to develop and implement a plan to address state specific source water protection needs of rural and small community water systems in the state.

– Provides a minimum of 300 hours annually of on-site assistance and training to rural and small communities with facilitating the development and implementation of source water protection plans.

– Develops a minimum of 3 source water protection plans for rural communities per year.

– Provides presentations and assistance to local officials, community groups, and others and responds to inquiries from facilities, governmental agencies, and others regarding technical matters.

– Attends National Rural Water Association (NRWA) In-Service Training and the NRWA WaterPro Conference annually.

– Completes and submits the required logs and other reporting as scheduled.

Salary & Benefits:

– Hours of work are flexible based on travel and meeting schedules.

– NYRWA provides a company vehicle, cell phone, laptop, printer, and other materials necessary for the successful completion of projects.

– 401K retirement plan – eligible after 1 year. Employee 3%. NYRWA 7% match.

– Salary contingent upon qualifications, experience, and ability.

– Vacation after 1 year – 10 days, after 2 years – 15 days, after 5 years – 20 days.

– Sick Leave accrue 1 day per month up to a maximum of 120 days sick leave.

– Personal Leave 1 day per year, must be here 6 months to earn the first day.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $59,292.00 – $65,012.00 per year
