Job Description:

Project Assistant – WASH Engineer

The Role:

The Project Assistant will provide continues supervision and monitoring for construction and rehabilitation works. S/he will also be responsible for conducting trainings, meetings and community mobilization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Project Officer- WASH and Infrastructure & Manager in conducting periodic assessment, baseline studies, context analysis of field realities and give feedback on the same. Actively participate as construction supervisions and checking quality of construction of materials supplied the contractors.
  • Ensure the establishment of active WASH student clubs at schools and are trained in CHAST Methodology. Number of boys and girls in the groups have to be equal.
  • Supervise and monitor WASH activities and follow up construction and rehabilitation to be used properly by the targeted communities and keep them clean.
  • Prepare and submit monthly progressive reports of construction or rehabilitation works and capture challenges and lessons learnt.
  • Organize and develop beneficiary lists for distribution of sanitation materials facilities such as, construction materials, sanitation tools, soap, and sanitary pads for ensuring equitable distribution of targeted beneficiaries.

Essential:

  • Degree in Civil engineering or Water Engineering
  • Skills in Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS,) Child Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (CHAST) and/ or   Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Methodology (PHAST) tools.
  • 2 years of experience in Project implementation of preferably a Community Development / Health or / WASH Project.

Working Environment:

The position is field-based in Burao, Somaliland with frequent travel to other target project locations.
