Job description

Kiel University aims to attract more qualified women to professorships.
The Institute of Geosciences in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science at Kiel University, Germany, invites applications for a limited term W 2-Professorship (six years) with tenure track (W 3) in Hydrogeology and Aquatic Geochemistry to start at the earliest possible date.

The future professor will be responsible for the subject area Hydrogeology and Aquatic Geochemistry in full width in both research and teaching. In research, the future professorship holder has the task of further developing the research field of hydrogeology and aquatic geochemistry in an internationally visible manner. Methodological focal points are the hydrogeological and geochemical characterization and experimental and numerical modeling of the subsurface, whereby in addition to the classical methods also quantitative methods for data analysis are requested. Preferred topics are groundwater quality and groundwater quantity in urban and rural areas as well as coastal zones, accounting for the changing climate and the anthropogenic use of the geological subsurface. For this, innovative concepts and well-known methods from the laboratory to the field scale should be employed.
An interdisciplinary link with the main research areas of the CAU Kiel (Forschungsschwerpunkte der Christian-Albrechts-UniversitĂ€t zu Kiel: Priority research areas (uni-kiel.de)) is desirable. In teaching, courses must be tought in the Bachelor‘s degree in Geosciences and in the Master‘s degree in Applied Geosciences. The ability to teach in German and English is expected after 2 – 3 years at the latest. Relevant teaching experience is expected. The focus should be on teaching basic hydrogeological and geochemical concepts and models as well as topics of hydrogeological and geochemical as well as quantitative methods for data analysis and mapping of the subsurface.

Requirements for employment are a university degree and doctorate in geosciences or a related subject, preferably with a focus on hydrogeology and aquatic geochemistry. Experience in raising third-party funds is expected. Please refer to the recruitment requirements of § 61 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein.
After successful evaluation and if the additional requirements of § 62a of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein are met, the aim is to grant tenure in the professorship. To this end at Kiel University, in accordance with the current statutes, an evaluation procedure is carried out, usually one year before the limited professorship ends. More information can be found at www.berufungen.uni-kiel.de (in German). For additional information about the position and the research unit, please contact Prof. Dr. Frank Wuttke (frank.wuttke@ifg.uni-kiel.de).

Kiel University is striving to increase the number of female scientists in research and teaching and therefore expressly encourages qualified women to apply. Women will be given priority if their aptitude, qualifications and professional performance are of equal value. The university is committed to the employment of severely disabled people. For this reason, severely disabled applicants will be given preferential treatment if they have the appropriate qualifications. We expressly welcome applications from people with a migration background. Application photographs are not required and we expressly request that you to refrain from submitting any.

Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, list of publications, list of courses taught, copies of academic certificates) along with your private and business address, telephone number and e-mail address should be sent (optional: preferably in electronic form as a single PDF file to berufungen@mnf.uni-kiel.de) to the following address by January 11, 2023: The Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Kiel University, 24098 Kiel, Germany.
