Job Summary

The Hydrologist is a professional that specializes in surface water science and associated watershed interactions including groundwater.  The position supports and conducts watershed science projects, provides sound scientific advice, prepares and manages contracts and other procurement actions, performs data analysis, drafts reports / presentations, and assists in the development of decision-support tools to inform water-resource / watershed management and other branch projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in a related field (e.g., Physical Geography, Earth Science, or Environmental Science), or equivalent.
  • Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a professional agrologist in the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists, or a professional forester with Forest Professionals BC, or as a professional geoscientist or professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists BC.  Under-implementation of the position at an LSO1 level may be considered, provided an applicant is currently registered with a British Columbia professional association and is actively articling / in-training.
  • Experience in surface water hydrology, hydrometrics (i.e., mid-section methods, salt dilution methods), and disturbance effects on watershed processes and resource management and planning in British Columbia.
  • Experience working cooperatively with other government agencies, academia, and the public.
  • Experience working on interdisciplinary team projects.
  • Experience conducting watershed characterization studies (i.e., describing all, or in part, a watershed’s hydrologic, climatic and potential disturbance characteristics).
  • Experience producing technical reports and summary presentations.
  • Experience in compilation of hydrologic summary statistics and use of associated data analysis software packages (e.g., fasstr and other programs).

About this Position:

This position has field requirements of 1 to 2 days per week on Southern Vancouver Island.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week as per the Telework Agreement.
