About us

At Wetlands International, we are dedicated to safeguarding and restoring wetlands so that these unique habitats are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide. We work to conserve and restore diverse wetland systems in all parts of the world, ranging from coastal wetlands such as mudflats and mangroves to freshwater systems all the way up to the mountains, including peatlands, marshes, rivers and floodplains. To make a global difference and ensure sustainable wetland management across land and seascapes, we inspire and mobilise society to act and influence levers of change.

Our work on coasts and deltas comprises a rapidly growing portfolio of worldwide projects and programmes. This includes integrated coastal zone management programmes, habitat and species conservation, dedicated restoration initiatives, and a range of sector and commodity-driven programmes focused on coastal engineering and aquaculture, among others. Through these initiatives, we aim to enhance the roles that coastal wetlands play to support biodiversity, ensure food and water security and reduce climate risks.

Our approach is highly collaborative, done through strategic public and private partnerships and cutting-edge networks, such as the Building with Nature consortium and the Global Mangrove Alliance.

Your role

As a Senior Technical Officer – Coasts and Deltas you will contribute your technical expertise and experience to support the design, development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of our portfolio of programmes around the world in order to maximise impact at local and global scales. A true team player, you will closely work with an enthusiastic team of colleagues from across our network of offices and partner organisations to facilitate exchange of knowledge and experience, ensuring a science-based and learning approach. You will continuously seek out and actively pursue new trends, knowledge, relationships and opportunities to further development our programmes in alignment with our 2020-2030 Strategic Intent.

Your specific role across our programme portfolio will depend on the skills and experience you bring to the organisations, but could include:

  • Help shape the development of our corporate partnerships and provide technical advice in current collaboration with private sector partners;
  • Help design and implement landscape-scale restoration programmes for mangroves and associated ecosystems;
  • Support the design of practical tools for coastal wetland management, such as guidelines for the restoration of mangroves, saltmarshes and mudflats;
  • Support the development and implementation of dedicated biodiversity initiatives, with a focus on the conservation of migratory waterbirds;
  • Help drive our Building with Nature programme, a public-private programme that seeks to integrate nature-based solutions in coastal engineering;

Profile

You are a passionate conservationist, dedicated to conserving coastal wetlands for people and nature. In your work you adopt a science-based, participative approach. You feel comfortable working with partners across sectors, disciplines and cultures towards shared solutions and have the language skills to enable this. A significant practical understanding of integrated coastal zone management, conservation planning and biodiversity conservation is key. You contribute expertise on nature-based solutions and working with the private sector towards sustainable coastal development.

You have proven experience working as part of large and complex projects and partnerships to deliver impact and change on the ground while creating the conditions to catalyze change at scale. You believe in the importance of partnerships to deliver meaningful and sustainable impact. Managing relationships sensitively and knowing how to support, coach and manoeuvre in these often complex working environments will be part and parcel of how you work.
