Who are we?

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km of pipes, keeping taps flowing and toilets flushing.

At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to life, so our business is always open.

What you’ll be doing

This role is within the Water Resources Team. This team is required to prepare, manage and deliver the statutory Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP), also ensuring that we are aligned with the Water Resources South East (WRSE) regional water resources plan. The overall objective of the WRMP is to ensure that our customers have a resilient water supply, now or in the future, considering the risks posed by drought and hot weather. It takes account of the need for more water to deal with a growing population, and climate change impacts, and by providing environmental and drought protection improvements. We produce a ‘Best Value Plan’ to meet any gaps between supply and demand using demand reduction and new supply options. The industry receives guidelines and direction from the regulators and government, such as the Water Resources Planning Guidelines which we are required to meet.

This role is an opportunity to work on the delivery of Thames Water’s WRMP and the over-arching regional plan, covering the Thames Valley and London, to ensure no water shortages for our generation and generations to come. Our WRMP includes the largest roll-out of customer metering in the UK water industry, plans to reduce leakage by 50% and further reduce PCC by 2050, whilst continuing to develop multi-billion pound strategic resource options such as national transfers and substantial storage reservoirs.

This role within the water resources team is to deliver the stakeholder and consultation activities. The stakeholder and consultation lead is a critical part of the development of the WRMP and the long term strategic success of Thames Water.

What you should bring to the role

  • at least 5 years of working experience successfully delivering stakeholder, and customer engagement plans and consultations for large corporate externally facing technical projects
  • Education to degree level
  • Excellent proven capability to write technical documentation that will be published, and engage stakeholders/customers face to face or through other means
  • Experience in the project coordination and supervision of consultants from a performance/budgetary perspective would be a plus
  • Strong decision-making skills and sound judgement in conveying sensitive messages to stakeholders/customers
  • Ability to manage supplier output and performance to ensure intended business benefits and efficiencies are realised
