The Institute has over 180 staff and postgraduate students across the University’s Nathan and Gold Coast campuses and hosts the International Water CentreCoastal Management Research Centre and the Sustainable Water Future Programme. We undertake high-quality research and postgraduate training in freshwater and estuarine ecology, catchment processes and water resource management. 

Job Description

The Research Fellow (RF2/SRF) position involves contributing to one or more research areas within the Institute.

The Research Fellow will support the Director of the Australian Rivers Institute, providing leadership and direction to the Director’s research team and HDR candidates and taking a lead role in project outcomes. The Research Fellow is expected to co-supervise HDR candidates and undergraduate student projects.

As a member of the Australian Rivers Institute, the Research Fellow will be expected to contribute actively to activities that promote ARI and Griffith University.

ARI is currently seeing a Research Fellow (Grade 2) or Senior Research Fellow (SRF) to support the Director. The Research Fellow will provide leadership and direction to the Director’s research team and HDR candidates, taking a lead role in externally funded, multi-disciplinary project outcomes. The Research Fellow is expected to co-supervise HDR candidates and undergraduate student projects.

As a member of the Australian Rivers Institute, the Research Fellow is also expected to contribute actively to activities that promote ARI and Griffith University.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Design Conduct analytical and modelling research that contributes to the research objectives of the Institute.
  • Develop a good publication record in high-impact, international, esteemed peer-reviewed journals. Manage and contribute towards the preparation and formulation of publications, figures and maps, presentations and research reports arising from the research.
  • Experience with supervision of higher degree research candidates.
  • Assist with the development of research proposals, as appropriate.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for two years based at the Griffith University Nathan campus.

Qualifications

To be successful within this role, you will hold a PhD or equivalent qualifications and possess work experience in soil science, environmental sciences, or a relevant field.

In addition to the above, you will demonstrate the following:

  1. A track record of publication in high-impact journals.
  2. Demonstrate ability to conduct collaborative research in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency projects.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to meet competing deadlines, work effectively as a team member, and communicate with various stakeholders.

Additional Information

Salary Range
The base salary for a Research Fellow (Grade 2) is in the range $100,137 – $118,916 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. The total package is in the range $117,160 – $139,132 per annum.
The base salary for a Senior Research Fellow is in the range $122,668 – $141,447 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. The total package is in the range $143,521 – $165,492 per annum.
