Are you looking for your first conservation management role? Take the next step in your career with us and gain essential management skills as well as delivering your own practical conservation projects.

We’re looking for a Catchment Project Manager to lead and manage the day-to-day operation of our Farming and Catchment Management team. You will work with farmers, landowners and other environmental organisations/agencies in the stunning Eden catchment to improve water quality so that Cumbria’s rivers, people and wildlife can thrive.

You will be responsible for the delivery of our land and riparian management projects related to water-friendly farming, Nutrient Neutrality, Biodiversity Net Gain and natural flood management.

We’re looking for someone who is:

Experienced in managing complex projects – able to maximise the environmental benefits so that rivers, people and nature can thrive whilst keeping a keen eye on the bottom line.

A natural communicator, passionate about rivers, farming and the environment – sharing your knowledge and explaining technical concepts in terms that everyone can understand.

Great at building and maintaining effective working relationships – you will seek out new opportunities – drawing together partners from the Eden Catchment Partnership, engaging with farmers and landowners and securing funding to ensure there is a pipeline of future projects.

Why join our team?

Enhancing and protecting the river environment so that people and nature in Cumbria can thrive is at the heart of our work. By rethinking rivers for good, we are changing conversations, finding ways to work smarter and inspiring and empowering others to do the best for our rivers. We believe in partnership, creativity and flexibility, and we are rooted in the Eden – working at ground level with local communities, land managers and businesses.

The Eden catchment has it all: national parks on your doorstep, high mountains, lush valleys and iconic lakes and rivers; it’s where farming underpins the local culture and economy, and you’ll be based at our office in the heart of the catchment, in Penrith.

It’s a place where you can make a real impact. Our rivers are designated a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and SSSI but are in unfavourable condition due to the declining state of nature; poor water quality; increasing flood risk and uncertainty around the future of upland agriculture.
