Summary of Job Duties:

The County Extension Agent – Water Quality will work from the Sevier County Extension Office located in Dequeen Arkansas, but will work throughout portions of Little River, Hempstead, Howard, and Polk Counties to assist extension clientele with water quality educational programming including presentations, workshops, fact sheets, newsletters, demonstrations, and property visits.

The agent will work in coordination with agents from other counties in the watershed to conduct site visits, develop educational programming, and meet the Lower Little River Watershed Outreach Project Goals to identify watershed residents, develop and distribute project information through at least 8 newsletters, conduct at least 24 water quality programs, conduct at least site visits, and establish at least 20 water quality demonstrations.

The goal of this project is to increase voluntary water quality protection through adoption of recommended practices in the Arkansas Nonpoint Source Pollution reduction management plan for the Lower Little River Watershed through outreach, education, and best management practice implementation and demonstration by following the LLRWMP to: increase local landowner and public awareness of the need for, and the benefits of, watershed restoration and protection practices; Increase stakeholder support and participation in the voluntary watershed management activities; and improve the understanding of how water quality and environmental improvements contribute to increased economic, agricultural, and social capital in the watershed.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related area of study is required. Must have transportation for use on the job with liability insurance in effect. Must agree to a background check authorizing release of relevant Arkansas Child Abuse & Neglect Central Registry records.
