Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral Associate (Treatment of Poly- and Perfluoroalkyl Substances)

The NYS Center for Clean Water Technology invites applications for the Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral position. The title/rank will be contingent upon the selected candidate’s skills and experience in their area of expertise.

Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): 
Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field. Minimum of one first-authored peer-reviewed publication.

Preferred Qualifications:
Research experience in the treatment of emerging contaminants such as poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 1,4-dioxane. Experience in the development and testing of bench-scale and/or pilot-scale water treatment systems. Experience working with analytical instruments to detect emerging contaminants (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS etc.).

Brief Description of Duties:
The Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) at Stony Brook University seeks two highly motivated Postdoctoral Associates to perform research in the treatment of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), 1,4-dioxane and other emerging contaminants. The qualified candidates should have previous research experience in physical and chemical treatment processes (adsorption, advanced reduction processes, etc.). The successful candidate will design and implement bench and/or pilot scale experiments to evaluate treatment techniques for removal of PFAS, 1,4-dioxane and other emerging contaminants. The Postdoctoral Associates will work closely with researchers from National Laboratories and New York State Department of Health & Department of Environmental Conservation. The candidates must have the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. The Postdoctoral Associates will work under the supervision of The Center’s Associate Director. 

Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:

  • Literature review and analysis of existing and emerging technologies for addressing targeted CECs
  • Design and implementation of bench and/or pilot scale experiments
  • Sample collection, preparation, and analysis
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or presentation to report on the outcomes of the research
  • Other duties as assigned

Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): 
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field. Minimum of one first-authored peer-reviewed publication.  Three (3) years of full-time related research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Research experience in the treatment of emerging contaminants such as poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 1,4-dioxane. Experience in the development and testing of bench-scale and/or pilot-scale water treatment systems. Experience working with analytical instruments to detect emerging contaminants (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS etc.).

The Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) at Stony Brook University seeks two highly motivated Senior Postdoctoral Associates to perform research in the treatment of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), 1,4-dioxane and other emerging contaminants. The qualified candidates should have previous research experience in physical and chemical treatment processes (adsorption, advanced reduction processes, etc.). The successful candidate will design and implement bench and/or pilot scale experiments to evaluate treatment techniques for removal of PFAS, 1,4-dioxane and other emerging contaminants. Senior postdoctoral researchers working on highly complex, and technically broad challenges and problems such as in the evaluation of the treatment of chemical mixtures and assessing the transformation or byproducts generated during treatment. 

This collaborative project will require the successful candidate to work closely with researchers from National Laboratories and New York State Department of Health & Department of Environmental Conservation. The candidates must have the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. The Postdoctoral Associates will work under the supervision of The Center’s Associate Director.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:

  • Literature review and analysis of existing and emerging technologies for addressing
    targeted CECs
  • Design and implementation of bench and/or pilot scale experiments;
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or
    presentation to report on the outcomes of the research
  • Assist with writing grant proposals
  • Analytical method development
  • Other duties as assigned

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
