The department Water Resources Management:

Studying the water system from perspectives from human well-being, ecosystem services and economic sectors and finance in close consultation with stakeholders, we identify solutions. The solutions address multiple risks such as water shortages, food and energy insecurity, migration and climate change on the national and river basin level. Decision makers use our newly developed knowledge and information. Examples of such projects are the Delta programme fresh water in the Netherlands, Valuing Water in Peru, low water risk assessments for the Rhine commission, and Water, Peace, and Security in Mali.

To support these activities WRM develops and applies the water resources planning and water allocation modelling software RIBASIM. RIBASIM has been used internationally for decades by engineering companies, research institutes, governmental organizations and other institutions under our motto “Dare to share” and our open software philosophy. Currently Deltares is working on renewing RIBASIM, openly on https://github.com/Deltares/Ribasim.
