ABOUT IMPACT WATER

Impact Water is a global social enterprise dedicated to providing safe drinking water to schools.  The company delivers reliable, low-cost water treatment technologies to public and private schools in Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda.  To date, over 30,000 schools have been reached.  Over time, the company aims to expand its model to reach 100,000+ schools.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Program Manager, Social and Behavior Change Communication will be responsible for the strategic use of communication approaches to promote changes in knowledge, attitudes, norms, beliefs and behaviors around safe drinking water at schools. This involves the coordination of messages and activities across a variety of channels to reach multiple levels at schools (students, teachers, parents) and the education system.

The Program Manager, Social and Behavior Change Communication will lead designing Behavior Change Communication strategies and programs for community based field agents and head office callers in order to maximize the correct and consistent use of Impact Water’s safe water systems by its partner schools.  The position achieves this by continuously studying usage barriers and then addressing and overcoming them by establishing intended audiences, setting behavioral communication objectives and determining consistent messages, materials and activities across channels. 

The Program Manager, Social and Behavior Change Communication should have a strong interest in public health, experience building highly committed, competent teams, experience working with schools or similar institutions, and experience with digital and traditional outreach. S/he should be a confident and adventurous person, excited to improve schools throughout Kenya and help make the human right to safe water a reality for all students. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

School Engagement

  • Conduct regular visits to schools to gain insights on challenges school’s face in providing safe drinking water to students
  • Design and implement Impact Water’s strategy for digital and traditional outreach to schools and other partner institutions
  • Research and implement innovative tools and technologies for effective outreach
  • Become a thought leader and must have sound leadership skills on generating behavior change communication materials. Being the one who leads the School Engagement and Product Usage team.
  • Collaborate with IW Kenya team to integrate behavior change communication into resupply and maintenance visits to schools
  • Manage a team of call agents responsible for inbound and outbound calls for School engagement activities

Product Usage

  • Design surveys and other mechanisms to evaluate product usage at schools
  • Contribute to the design of data collection forms used by other departments to deepen understanding of product usage
  • Research and pilot cost-effective technologies that increase usage
  • Identify ways to use human-centered design thinking to increase usage

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Public Health, Marketing or any of the Social Sciences (Master’s preferred)
  • Must be able to travel 40% of the time to visit schools across the country
  • Must be over 30 years of age
  • Must have held managerial position(s) with a combined experience of more than 2 years
  • Experience in product research and design, commercial and/or social marketing, and behavior change communications is desirable
  • Experience working with schools is a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of digital and traditional outreach methods
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. 
  • Knowledge of apps like Salesforce, Taroworks, slack and ODK is a plus
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
