Position Description

This is a career-track research scientist associate position in the Storm Scale Hydro-Meteorological Team at the Cooperative Institute for Severe and High-Impact Weather Research and Operations (CIWRO) and at the Advanced Radar Research Center (ARRC) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in collaboration with NOAA’s National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL).

Overview

The Cooperative Institute for Severe and High-Impact Weather Research and Operations (CIWRO) at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma is currently seeking a research scientist to conduct applied research related to improving satellite-based quantitative precipitation estimates (QPEs) and other hydrological applications used by operational forecasters.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist the development of satellite-based QPE techniques, and to test, refine, and integrate these algorithms into NSSL’s Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor system
  • Conduct post-analyses of QPE performance during precipitation events to further refine algorithm accuracy and efficiency
  • Attend meetings and professional conferences to present research results and interact with collaborators and users; formally publish results when appropriate
  • Review technical and professional publications and attend seminars to stay abreast of current developments in meteorological and remote sensing science

Qualifications

  • A M.S. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Data Science or a related area, preferably with experience with meteorological applications
  • Experience in scientific programming, statistical methods and meteorological data analysis and visualization
  • Ability to communicate scientific research through conference presentations, formal publications and technical documents
