The Surface Water Assessment and Modelling Team provides advice on Government initiatives such as Sustainable Water Strategies, maintaining integrity of the Bulk Entitlement framework, Basin Plan implementation program and Murray Darling Basin water sharing including Murray River operations. The team undertakes consultative, technical and modelling works to ensure Victoria meets its SDL compliance reporting obligations under Section 71 of the Commonwealth Water Act 2007. The team also supports implementation of the National Hydrological Modelling Strategy to ensure best modelling practice and technical analysis across the state.

The Senior Water Resource Analyst/Modeller will provide strategic technical advice, including the water entitlement framework, interstate water sharing arrangements, and policy and management decisions, and will support the adoption of the new Source modelling platform by undertaking modelling and assessment tasks for effective management of Victoria’s surface water resources. The position will also play a key role in communicating with a range of internal and external stakeholders about technical aspects of surface water systems related to effective management of Victoria’s water resources.

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated and committed individual, with excellent technical capability, strong relationship building skills, initiative and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work proactively to ensure the best use of time.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in science or engineering is mandatory.
  • Specialist expertise in surface water resource assessment and modelling, including management of complex water resources projects, is mandatory.
  • Experience and proficiency in surface water modelling tools (e.g. Source, REALM etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Victorian water supply systems and the Murray-Darling Basin is desirable.

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
