Offer Description
The research project aims to quantify multisectoral impacts of water scarcity. Referring to the water-energy-food nexus perspective, innovative water scarcity assessment methodologies will be designed to quantify water scarcity impacts on water use conflicts. The role of water scarcity in the links between agricultural expansion, environmental health and human health, and between unequal water resource distribution and social unrest will be investigated. Statistical analysis of water scarcity extremes will produce water scarcity hazard estimates in current and climate change scenarios. Expected results include analytical tools and methodological frameworks to quantify competitions between multiple water users (e.g., food and energy sector, human use for livelihoods and ecosystems) and to design solutions that aimed at avoiding such competitions.
