WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Nature Conservancy understands the critical role of investments, corporate practices, and markets in solving the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. The Conservancy has established the Impact Finance & Markets Division, bringing together talent from across the organization to shape direction of investment, corporate practices, and markets around the world. The Senior Corporate Engagement Advisor, Fisheries & Aquaculture is part of the Corporate Engagement team within the Impact Finance & Markets division and reports to the Corporate Engagement Director, Food & Water. Specifically, the Senior Corporate Engagement Advisor will manage engagements within the seafood (wild fisheries and aquaculture) sector.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Senior Corporate Engagement Advisor, Fisheries & Aquaculture (Sr. Advisor) develops, implements, and coordinates corporate engagements that, by facilitating the integration of nature into business models, help direct private-sector economic, operational, and political influence in support of the Conservancy’s conservation goals. They develop and implement strategies for engaging companies; coordinate and conduct outreach to companies; manage and support specific corporate engagements; conduct analysis and contribute to the Corporate Engagement team’s functional priorities. They will work closely with members of the global Provide Food & Water team and other TNC internal Business Units to implement the Conservancy’s Large-Scale Fisheries and Global Aquaculture Strategies, which supports corporate participation in on-the-ground projects, regional consortia, and innovative conservation strategies.
In this role, you will work directly with TNC’s aquaculture and fisheries teams to develop strategies for engaging corporate partners to scale conservation. You will build deep relationship with priority corporate partners, helping to shift their business toward unlocking conservation outcomes. You will represent TNC in relevant international platforms and forums, serving as an advocate and expert on conservation in fisheries and aquaculture systems.
This position may be remote, in office, or hybrid, and may be located in any country with an existing TNC office.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Develop relationships and work effectively with corporate and other external partners.
- Serve as relationship manager to specific corporations and support other engagements.
- Develop and implement corporate engagement strategies.
- Manage relationships and projects with minimal supervision.
- With a team, design and manage major meetings, including gatherings of corporate, government, and non-governmental representatives.
- Conduct research to inform the Corporate Engagement team’s functional strategy and activities.
- Prepare and present project proposals and negotiate with external parties.
- Support fundraising activities to advance corporate engagement activities related to fisheries and aquaculture.
- Persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse groups who are critical to the Conservancy’s overall strategies.
- Design and implement analyses and recommendations to improve the sustainability footprint of fishery and aquaculture businesses and supply chain partners.
- Identify continuous improvement pathways for industry partners to move from status quo to a more sustainable or regenerative future state, and collaboratively work with partners to pursue these goals.
- Develop innovative models for fishery and aquaculture supply chain partners to contribute to and participate in TNC’s conservation and restoration work.
- Recommend metrics and clear milestones to guide TNC and its partners on what constitutes “success” in corporate engagements.
- Collaborate with TNC programs beyond Large Scale Fisheries and Aquaculture to identify areas for shared impact across industries / landscapes.
- Work in partnership with other organizations in a collaborative and advisory capacity.
- Develop constructive and effective working relationships inside and outside the Conservancy.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and external requirements.
- May supervise administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training, and development.
- May include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget development.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, social/natural science, business or related field and 6 years of senior level experience in the private sector (consulting, agri-food business, etc.) or relevant role in government/civil society or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of corporate sustainability best practices in the food and water sector.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting project proposals and negotiating complex or sensitive agreements or projects.
- Demonstrated project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organization.
- Demonstrated experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with corporations, governments, partners, and all levels of staff.
- Fluency in English.
- Strong basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent program).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree (MBA or other) appreciated.
- Experience in developing and executing sustainability programs within companies.
- Experience working in or with senior strategy, operations, sourcing, or sustainability positions in the seafood industry.
- Experience conducting sustainability analyses related to sustainable sourcing and carbon emissions to inform decision-making.
- Experience serving as a project manager on diverse, international, and virtual teams.
- Experience presenting to and communicating with executive levels in a corporate setting.
- Experience using outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating, and organizational skills.
- International experience and language skills.
- Supervisory experience.
