Who we are 
The Commonwealth Environmental Water Office (the Office) supports the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder, who is responsible for managing Commonwealth environmental water to protect and improve the health of rivers, floodplains and wetlands within the Murray-Darling Basin. The Office works closely with other government agencies, non-government organisations, First Nations, community and industry groups, local landholders and scientists to plan and manage the delivery of environmental water. The Office includes a range of roles ranging from water planning, portfolio management, monitoring and evaluation, policy development, statutory reporting and engagement. The Office also supports the Australian Government in its international engagement on the Convention of Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention).

The Wetlands Section within the office is responsible for coordinating national implementation of the Ramsar Convention in Australia in partnership with state and territory governments, non-government wetland managers, researchers and local communities. The team works at the interface of domestic and international environmental policy implementation. The Wetlands Section provides high quality policy and project advice and provides a conduit between the Ramsar Convention Secretariat and wetland managers on the ground.

The Job
We require an experienced Project Leader to deliver the Ramsar Wetland Climate Adaptation Project, an Australian Government election commitment. The project will run over three years and involve collaboration and co-design with Ramsar site managers and science and community leaders at 3 to 5 Ramsar sites. The Project Leader will be responsible for leading the implementation of the Project. 

Tasks are expected to include: 
•     project management (planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, reporting and issues management)
•     commissioning of facilitators and technical experts
•     participating positively in stakeholder discussions on climate change and its impact on the wetland
•     facilitating the injection of policy and delivery advice from environmental water holders including the staff from within the division (which includes Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder)
•     liaising with other commonwealth and state government officers to maximise the benefits from this project.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
•    Experience in leading and providing oversight and governance of projects, procurement, budgets, contracts/contractors and risk management.
•    Knowledge relating to wetlands and water resource management, climate change projections and scenario building.
•    Demonstrated experience in leading and managing similar projects.

Skills and capabilities
•    Ability to engage with a range of different stakeholders to facilitate cooperation and achieve positive outcomes including building capability of others on complex issues such as water, the environment and or climate change.
•    Ability to work effectively and flexibly across teams and organisations.
•    Positive track record in working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders on complex / technical issues. 
•    High quality communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely and with influence, both verbally and in writing and proven ability to communicate complex information in plain language.
•    Excellent organisational skills, with a pro-active approach to identifying and implementing improvements to work practices and systems.
•    Complex decision-making skills including the ability to identify issues early and formulate approach to resolve issues.
