We are looking for a full time Programme Director to be based in our WWF European Policy Office (WWF EPO) in Brussels. The European Policy Office helps shape EU policies that impact on the European and global environment. WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.Location: WWF European Policy Office in Brussels

Main responsibilities:

This a new role, mobilizing the European network to secure commitment and buy-in on EPO policy strategy and programme, with a focus on Conservation directors and key WWF conservation practices (namely biodiversity; food and agriculture; forests; water, and wildlife). The role contributes to ensuring the sustainability of EPO funding basis; provides line-management to EPO’s natural resources and land-use team.

  • Network engagement: drives/secures commitment and buy-in from WWF network & conservation community of EPO policy strategy and programme;
  • EPO’s financial sustainability: contributes to ensuring the sustainability of EPO’s funding basis in order to deliver on its policy priorities;
  • Managing EPO Natural Resources and Land-Use team: leads, motivates, manages, and develops policy staff on key conservation policies, namely: biodiversity, forests, water, food and agriculture and wildlife;
  • External representation & outreach: in coordination with EPO Director, supports priority issues by representing the organization at high-level EU political fora as well as in civil society networks and coalitions; liaises with private sector representative groups and companies as appropriate.

What you need: required qualifications and skills/competencies:

  • Extensive experience preferably in conservation, environmental sciences, social science, political science or a related field;
  • Knowledge, experience and curiosity of EU political and policy formulation processes;
  • Relevant experience in political advocacy and campaigns; 
  • Experience and demonstrable success of leading change and bringing people on a journey constructively and empathetically; experience and understanding of working in large international organisations and/or NGOs networks and families;
  • Solid experience of building strong networks and relationships with NGOs, corporates, governments and institutions;
  • Ability to negotiate, to build consensus and to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and seeking out innovative solutions; 
  • Demonstrated skills and success at fundraising will be an asset;
  • Demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary programmes;
  • Leadership experience, ability to mentor and develop multicultural teams, fostering and maintaining a supportive and caring work environment, collaboration, and learning;
  • A strong interest in and commitment to environmental, climate and sustainability issues;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;

Remuneration package:

WWF European Policy Office offers a competitive package of pay and other benefits.
The indicative base salary range for this role would be around 6.000 to 7.000 € gross per month, with the final figure depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
WWF European Policy Office also offers a range of additional benefits, including allowances for lunch, public transport and home working, health insurance, pension plan, paid holiday and additional months of pay in accordance with Belgian law.
