Who we are?

IDA is an international independent non-governmental organization providing medical and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflicts, natural disasters and epidemics regardless of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
IDA was founded in 2012 by Syrian doctors from Aleppo in response to the healthcare and humanitarian crisis in Syria.

IDA Syria is the main healthcare provider in the Northern Aleppo/Syria area, working closely with 500,000 IDPs and 700,000 host communities through 20 healthcare facilities and other health and nutrition projects

During last year, IDA has provided 1.2 million services in Heath, Nutrition, WaSH and Camp Management

Job Summary:

The WaSH Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all WaSH programs and projects in a specific NWS. The WaSH Manager will lead a team of technical staff and work closely with community members, partners, and stakeholders to ensure the provision of safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and promotion of hygiene practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement WaSH programs and projects in accordance with the organization’s strategic plan and the needs of the target communities.
  • Lead and supervise a team of technical staff to ensure the effective delivery of WaSH programs and projects.
    Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations for the provision of safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion.
  • Develop and manage budgets, work plans, and monitoring and evaluation plans for all WaSH activities.
    Work closely with community members, partners, and stakeholders to ensure their involvement in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of WaSH programs and projects.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of WaSH programs and projects.
    Collaborate with other departments and external partners to identify and implement innovative solutions to address WaSH challenges.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, donors, and other key stakeholders to support the sustainability of WaSH programs and projects.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to staff and partners on WaSH-related issues.
  • Ensure that all WaSH activities are implemented with a gender-sensitive and inclusive approach.
    Qualifications:

These are skills, knowledge, and experience that are important for effective performance.

Generic professional competencies for this position:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Water Engineering, Sanitation Engineering, Public Health, or a related field.
    At least 5 years of experience in managing WaSH programs and projects in developing countries.
  • Strong technical knowledge of WaSH-related issues, including safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion.
  • Experience in budget management, work planning, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strong leadership, management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, government agencies, donors, and other partners.
  • Fluency in English, and Arabic
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to project sites in remote areas.
  • Strong commitment to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience working within a humanitarian context;
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts;
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities;
  • Good IT skills, including Excel and Word, and PowerPoint;

  • Knowledge of the context in Northwest Syria
  • Good standing and reputation in the community
  • Experience working with local partners;
  • Experience in conducting assessments and monitoring activities;
