The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies

The Groundwater Technician operates the Provincial Observation Well Network in a Region or Area and functions as a regional groundwater-monitoring expert (quality and quantity).

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in a natural resource field (preferably geology, hydrogeology, environmental science or geological engineering) AND 1 year water resource related experience; OR
  • Diploma in a natural resource field (preferably geology, hydrogeology, environmental science or geological engineering) and 3 years water resource related experience; OR
  • Minimum 5 years directly related water resources experience if no relevant post-secondary education
     
  • Experience in groundwater quality and quantity data collection methods, including well construction, monitoring field methods, testing techniques, and sampling from a well.
  • Experience with datalogging software, spreadsheets, databases and GIS.
  • Experience preparing graphs, tables and calculating basic statistics.
  • Experience compiling, analysing and summarizing technical data.
  • Experience writing technical reports and communications.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have experience in operating and maintaining observation wells and related equipment

Provisos

  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay and work in all weather conditions.
