The Dams team, under the leadership of the Global Water Unit, comprises dam and water resources specialists working across all the Bank’s regions to support lending operations and advisory services involving dams. The team also coordinates a global analytics program, which includes the development of technical resources for Bank teams, monitoring of the Bank’s portfolio of dam-related projects, and supporting the exchange and uptake of global knowledge on dams and reservoirs. The Dams team is seeking a consultant to support its global knowledge program in the following areas:

Strategy, Innovation & Business Development:
-With inputs of Dams team members, prepare business/portfolio analyses, presentations and briefing notes, case studies, and outreach materials
-Liaise with task teams and use external resources as appropriate to fill gaps in the WB dams database
-Technical Quality Assurance and Adherence to Bank Requirements
-Support Dams team members as needed on specific tasks related to technical quality assurance and adherence to Bank policy requirements

Knowledge & Learning:
-Contribute to the finalization and dissemination of the ongoing global ASA and its deliverables, including through research, analysis, collation of lessons learned, etc.
-Support the organization of internal and external knowledge sharing and dissemination events and trainings in collaboration with the global knowledge and learning team.
-With inputs from the broader team, curate content for the internal website.

Partnerships & Outreach
-Contribute to communication products related to emerging themes and issues and Bank engagements related to dams and reservoirs, including blogs.
-Support the Dams team in the forging and maintenance of relationships with key internal and external partners, including follow-up on agreed up initiatives and action items.
-Contribute to the work of the Hydropower and Dams and WRM GSGs.

The consultant will be offered a World Bank consultancy contract for 45 days, which may be extended as per needs and budget availability. The expected start date is April 1, 2023 and the expected end date is June 30, 2023.

The consultant must have the following qualifications and experience:
• Advanced degree in civil engineering, water resources or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant work experience;
• Solid and demonstrable working experience related to water storage management and/or dams in developing contexts
• Self-motivated, excellent organizational skills, proven ability to perform multiple tasks, and ability to work with both internal and external constituencies and prioritize deliverables;
• Proven ability to work in a team and intercultural environment, with minimal supervision;
• Experience with World Bank projects desirable, either analytical work or operations
• Extensive knowledge of World Bank systems, and databases and experience working with those systems desirable;
• Excellent communication and English writing skills. Fluency in other languages (i.e. Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian) would be desirable.
