OGIA is responsible for the assessment and management of cumulative groundwater impacts from resource development in the Surat and southern Bowen basins.

For this purpose, OGIA undertakes a range of scientific studies and reporting relating to regional groundwater flow conceptualisation, modelling, design of monitoring network, assessment of groundwater-dependent ecosystems and maintenance of large spatial and temporal data sets.

Operating within OGIA, the position will lead projects and investigations that support regional-scale groundwater assessments, conceptualisation and modelling of various groundwater systems in Queensland, including the Great Artesian Basin.

You will also lead the manipulation and interrogation of large regional scale groundwater/geoscientific data sets.

Key duties and accountabilities:
• Lead specific regional and sub-regional scale projects and investigations to inform groundwater assessments and conceptualisation.

• Lead, develop and apply innovative data analysis and data science techniques to large regional scale attribute and spatial data sets.

• Extract meaningful insights from multidisciplinary datasets to investigate specific problems.

• Support the leadership team in the overall assessment and management of groundwater impacts of water extraction by the resources industry.
• Lead a team of hydrogeologist and data scientists.

• Prepare high quality technical reports, workflows, documentation and memos.

• Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with clients, stakeholders and project teams.

• Other duties as directed and required.

Role requirements
• A degree qualification in either hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, geology, hydrology, engineering, geoscience, science or applied science is a mandatory requirement.

• Desirable:
– Python (pandas, numpy, scipy, scikit-learn, matplotlib).
– Familiarity with machine-learning methods.
– A working knowledge of groundwater/geoscience concepts and principles.
– Familiarity with analytical and numerical modelling techniques.
