By working closely with project owners and developers as well as their local communities, we manage the complete registration, verification and evaluation of carbon projects to enable the issuance of emission-reduction certificates, in line with official carbon standards. Job summary:

As a Senior Specialist, Technical, NBS, Climate Projects – LatAm, you will oversee the timely and effective generation and delivery of emission reductions, as well as the management of several full project cycles in LatAm. Reporting directly to the Regional Manager, Technical, NBS, Climate Projects – LatAm.

As a part of the LatAm NBS Projects team, you will be accountable for the delivery of all milestones proposed for projects under the carbon and co-benefits standards (i.e. VCS, The Gold Standard, CCBS, Colombian Certification programs). In addition, you will be responsible for developing carbon estimations and delivering high-quality products (project documents, monitoring reports and others) in English, and will assist in the audit process for the validation and verification of GHG emission reductions.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Support the design, documentation and certification of NBS projects, addressing the development of the whole climate component, including baseline, additionality, permanence and risk assessment, and carbon sequestration/emission reduction estimates, among other topics related to climate benefits
  • Design, organize, and conduct site visits and travel to project locations whenever needed
  • Prepare proposal and deliverables and finalize them to the quality required by South Pole and third parties (e.g. auditors, standard, project partners and relevant stakeholders)
  • Be a key point of contact and maintain a good relationship with the team members inside the region, project owners/project partners, clients, validation and verification bodies, and other counterparts
  • Provide technical and business development support to the Commercial NBS team and other collaborators in the region
  • Support the plan content and structure to support the certification of the project: work plans, work schedules, budgets, and deliverables
  • Schedule Quality Checks and additional Technical Reviews on time
  • Support the ongoing training of the whole team and participate in technical discussions for the strength of the team’s capacities and knowledge construction
  • Provide the necessary information and support to Project Managers to keep general information, milestones and cash flow in the project management software up to date
  • Ability to manage complex and multiple projects and tasks, prioritise urgent and important ones, and fulfilling high-quality deliverables
  • Apply the internal policies and procedures about the correct use of our internal project management tool for keeping general information, milestones, and cash flow, as well as, the general normativity to ensure harmony between all stakeholders involved in the organization (accounting, registries, projects managers, portfolio, HR, commercial and other internal and external stakeholders)
  • Identify and prioritise tasks according to the needs of the project, regarding the schedule and budget
  • Planning and development of site visits and other types of business trips/training, and other relevant events.

Requirements:

Essential –

  • University degree in forestry, natural resource management, sustainability or climate change and carbon mitigation-related fields, a Master’s degree is a plus
  • More than 3 years of work experience in Forestry, Sustainability Consulting, Climate Change Mitigation/Adaptation or related fields
  • Carbon accountability experience (2+) in NBS projects and knowledge of carbon and co-benefit standards for the generation of carbon credits
  • Ability to analyse critical situations, propose solutions and address those in coordination with the relevant decision-makers
  • Ability to work on assignments that are diverse in nature, applying company policies, processes, and procedures to resolve a variety of issues/problems
  • Experience in teamwork, conservation project design and budget management
  • Capacity to solve relatively complex project-related problems independently and receive general direction on new assignments or projects
  • Ability to manage targets and priorities and develop your own
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Google Suite
  • Ability to create high-quality written documents, especially verbal and written skills in English and Spanish
  • Transdisciplinary and holistic vision to support NBS projects
  • Have excellent communication skills, especially verbal and written skills in English and Spanish

Desirable –

  • Postgraduate degree in Forestry, Biology, environmental sciences, sustainability, agriculture, natural resource management, or climate change and carbon mitigation-related fields
  • Knowledge and experience in the NBS project management and environmental credits markets (carbon, biodiversity, water), in local/international certification standards
  • Knowledge about NBS topics complexity, such as baseline, additionality, permanence and risk assessment, and carbon sequestration/emission reduction estimates, among other topics related to climate benefits
  • Experience working with local communities
  • Proficiency in Project Management tools (e.g Monday, Trello, and others)
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems using software such as Esri Suite and QGIS
  • Adaptability and versatility to changing conditions and team composition
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • A third language is considered a plus, Portuguese
