Working within the Rural Water Futures Program within the Water Operations and Systems business group of the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water, provides a rare opportunity to be involved in transformational change that will underpin how rural water resources are accessed, used and managed by Government, water users and the community into the future.
In this role, you will be developing and applying catchment water quantity models across the Queensland Murray Darling Basin (MDB). The role will support the development and integration of water balance models with our emerging water planning, management and compliance needs.

Contribute to the development of catchment water quantity models across the MDB, to report improvements around water management and inter-jurisdictional reporting. Represent the Queensland Government and build relationships with other stakeholders, presenting results and outputs from the modelling in a range of forums, including scientific workshops, regional body and stakeholder meetings and the production of technical reports and peer reviewed papers for scientific journals.
Support DRDMW investigations teams through the application of water balance models across a range of geographic scales. Interact closely with other professionals collecting relevant data and information, and liaise and collaborate with scientists and professional officers from a range of State and Commonwealth agencies, Regional bodies and other institutions involved in modelling. Provide expert technical advice to internal and external clients on the suitability of various water balance models to meet MDB reporting requirements.
