Position SummaryThis recruitment will be used to fill three part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Watershed Science Technician positions for the College of Forestry at Oregon State University (OSU).The Forest Ecohydrology and Watershed Science (FEWS) laboratory (http://fews.forestry.oregonstate.edu/) in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University is looking to hire multiple Watershed Science Technician positions for the 2023 field season to assist with a range of research projects evaluating the effects of wildfire on watersheds and aquatic ecosystems in western Oregon.Technicians will gain valuable experience in a wide range of field and laboratory methods in watershed science. Responsibilities will primarily consist of assisting with field research.
Position DutiesTasks will include:Field workSurveying fish and amphibian populationsQuantifying riparian and aquatic habitatsConducting streamflow measurementsCollecting water quality samples (sediment, nutrients, and carbon)Offloading stream temperature sensors and other electronic monitoring equipmentField work will entail long days working outside, carrying heavy equipment, wading and working in swift water, hiking off trail, and exposure to challenging weather conditions. Field work will be conducted as day trips from Corvallis or will require camping at nearby field sites during summer months (40 hrs/week during summer). Camping accommodations will be provided.Although predominantly a field position, this position will also include assistance with data entry, data QA/QC, and laboratory work across various lab spaces on the OSU campus.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of studyMust meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employmentMust meet the applicable minimal enrollment standardHigh School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling programUndergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per termUndergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per termGraduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term**International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
