This is a full-time in-person internship opportunity

General Description

The Office of Watershed Protection is responsible for the development and implementation of the environmental compliance and inspection programs including natural resource management, water resources protection, water quality management, monitoring, and analysis, industrial pretreatment, stormwater compliance, permit and regulatory compliance, and regional water resource planning.

  • Compliance Sampling
  • Records Maintenance
  • Field Inspections

Knowledge and Skills

  • Effective Verbal and written communications
  • Microsoft Suite

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States of America
  • Must be true raising sophomore and above college students
  • Minimum overall GPA 3.0 (2.75 may be considered)
  • Must attach College Transcript – Unofficial is acceptable (NO screenshots)
  • Currently pursuing a bachelors or associates degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have at least one remaining semester

Essential Duties & Responsibilities for the Office of Watershed Protection – Wastewater Labs

Responsibilities:  These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Sample Custody- the intake of daily samples pouring up samples and distribute to different areas of the laboratory according to analysis.
  • Residual Area-Processing the daily TSS, TSS/VSS and %TS/%VS samples.
  • Nutrients Area- Processing samples for Ammonia analysis.
  • Glassware cleaning and sample dumping and bottle washing.
  • Assist technicians in daily prep.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Effective Verbal and written communications
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices, equipment and instrumentation

Essential Duties & Responsibilities for the Office of Watershed Protection – Drinking Water Labs

Responsibilities:  These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Support laboratory staff in:
    • Water sample collections
    • Sample analyses
    • Laboratory maintenance
    • Cleaning, and prepping
    • Water Quality Control Specialists in the field with water quality task
    • Tasks may also include data entry and assisting with general office tasks such as archiving records.
    • Field work will be required with supervision

  • Knowledge of laboratory

Essential Duties & Responsibilities for the Office of Watershed Protection – Site Development

Responsibilities:  These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Provide due diligence including but not limited to reviewing available online information sources such as various maps and street view to screen incoming plans under review for nearby infrastructure and natural features such as streams.
  • Other related assignments as needed.

  • Knowledge of Plan Reading
