You will be flexible and ready to contribute to solving these, sometimes working in unfamiliar territory and without established processes or guidance to base decisions on.

As an advisor you will provide support to colleagues across the Environment Agency, using your knowledge and skills to help them find solutions that protect and enhance water quality. You will be customer focussed, working with others across government, other Agencies, industry and environmental bodies to achieve our objectives. You will seek ways to innovate and maximise beneficial outcomes for the environment, whilst ensuring compliance with legislation and policy.

The Environment Agency will be keen to support you to develop your professional and personal skills to help you succeed and flourish in your career.

The team

We are recruiting for an advisor to be part of the Water Quality Regulatory Development team (WQRDT) in the Environment and Business Directorate. You will work closely with the wider water quality community across the business, collaborating with and supporting them. The team has a close working relationship with Defra and Natural England.

Experience/skills required

Your skills and experience should include good knowledge of water quality and other environmental legislation. Experience of water quality permitting and wastewater discharge regulation would be advantageous, as would an understanding of water quality statistics. You should be confident in your ability to both develop good relationships with internal and external customers. Good communication skills, verbal and written are a must, as you’ll be working proactively with both internal and external stakeholders. You should be experienced in explaining new concepts and encouraging new ways of working.

Contact and additional information

The WQRD team is a dispersed national team. The location for this role is flexible. You should be comfortable with remote working and management and proficient in the use of virtual communication tools. Some national travel will be required to attend meetings and other events.

Applications are welcomed from those with flexible working patterns.

You’ll have an inclusive incident management objective in your development plan, so we’ll support you to find an incident role to suit your needs and circumstances.
