Job Description

International Medical Corps UK is a global humanitarian organisation saving and rebuilding lives through healthcare, training and community development. International Medical Corps UK works alongside International Medical Corps and International Medical Corps Croatia, currently responding to humanitarian emergencies and communities afflicted by conflict, poverty and natural disaster in about 30 countries.

JOB SUMMARY: To technically and strategically support and prioritize the International Medical Corps UK WASH intervention in support to the international program platforms and country programs. The priorities include, building capacities, technical design and monitoring of WASH programs and cross cutting areas that address integration, gender, knowledge management and learning. The advisor will provide technical support to strengthen the organization’s WASH capacity and further enhance WASH representation and program quality in the assigned region(s).

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Support the rollout of IMC global WASH strategy, protocols, policies, and international best practices to adopt; advice on SPHERE standards, both qualitative and quantitative, are considered through the program cycle and are well documented;
•    Provide technical guidance to WASH assigned field staff and country teams at all stages of the program cycle (assessments, grant and proposal writing, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation); gender and protection are considered throughout the project cycle, with women being enabled to influence decision-making around WASH/IPC challenges;
•    Support the development of technical guidance for WASH interventions in humanitarian responses and development settings in collaboration with other technical advisors; 
•    Conduct the joint multisectoral assessments with IMC sectoral counterparts to ensure integrated programming;
•    Champion data use for decision making and building of evidence for WASH  best practices based on IMC’s interventions, and ensure that field teams incorporate these into their programs;
•    Advice on technical designs based on relevant, appropriate technologies for water, sanitation, hygiene and infection prevention and control in context (health facilities, communities, camps, and Schools); 
•    Advocate/lobby program integration; that WASH program design considers other sectoral areas, including Health, gender, protection, operation, maintenance, and sustainability;
•    Emergency preparedness and response– support the contingency planning and pandemic preparedness as directed by the supervisor for any emergency and timely response; 
•    Actively engage with all relevant technical leads and operational and program development team members to identify and respond to opportunities for WASH activities in current program areas;
•    Review and approve the WASH components of program development (CNs, proposals) in accordance with the proposal review and signoff process; 
•    Provide technical capacity building of the assigned platform through coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training, Community of Practice,  during the field’s visits and remotely on global WASH standards and approaches for WASH in emergencies (both hardware and software); International Medical Corps in WASH and relevant Cluster activities;
•    Represent International Medical Corps at national/platform meetings with governmental donor agencies, various UN Agencies, the WASH Cluster, and conferences and meetings of health and WASH organizations.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•    Typically, a Bachelor’s degree in water sanitation engineering or related field. Master’s Degree in relevant field is preferred. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
•    Extensive experience in managing and capacity-building WASH staff at various levels (HQ and Country levels), including 8 Years in humanitarian field;
•    Professional WASH/IPC training and qualification in WASH.
•    The ability to effectively analyze complex problems and suggest a solution that would have a positive impact on International Medical Corps needs
•    Strong written and oral communications skills, including the ability to write technical documents and give a presentation to colleagues
•    Proven experience in capacity building
•    English proficiency is required 
•    French and/or Arabic is desirable
•    Commitment to be deployed at very short notice to respond to humanitarian emergencies and fill gaps in the field (up to at least 75%).
