WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
DUTIES:
- Provides division-wide leadership, direction, maintenance, and coordination for the Climate Adaptation Strategy.
- Provides coordination across a portfolio of climate adaptation projects and helps to elevate related adaptation priorities in collaboration with key agencies and partners.
- Supports program objectives by working in a complex environment across all business units and strategies in the Caribbean Division.
- Manages targeted, climate-specific working groups across the Caribbean Division to enhance capacity and effectiveness and craft a consistent strategic message and approach.
- Drives strategy implementation and management, including building a strategic workplan and coordinating the business unit staff who will need to be engaged in implementing the work.
- Responds to requests from internal partners to provide content for the development of regional funding proposals.
- Writes requests for proposal (RFPs) for grant/contract funding for program.
- Leads the development of funding proposals and works closely with Business Units to track and manage progress toward implementation of climate-related projects.
- Builds cooperation from partners and outside parties to accomplish Climate project specific goals.
- Serves as the primary spokesperson for the Division on Climate Strategy to internal and external audiences (including staff, volunteers, the Board of Trustees, public and private donors, government agencies and officials, community leaders, and partner organizations.
- Frequently makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
- Establishes and maintains optimal performance standards within budget.
- Negotiates complex agreements, in a political environment.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Environmental Science, Environmental Biology, or in a closely related field and 7 years of experience with environmental conservation practice OR Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Environmental Science, Environmental Biology, or in a closely related field and 5 years of experience with environmental conservation practice.
Must have the following experience:
- 5 years of experience with climate adaptation in the Caribbean or in Small Island Developing States;
- 5 years of experience influencing, developing, and implementing conservation strategies and plans;
- 5 years of experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners;
- 4 years of supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives, and managing performance of teams;
- 5 years of experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups, and/or government agencies;
- Demonstrated knowledge* of marine conservation, coastal management, freshwater and watershed conservation strategies; and,
- Demonstrated knowledge* of current trends and practices in climate adaptation, climate resilience, NBS, and related disciplines at the intersection of nature conservation, public and private finance, and humanitarian sectors.
*Knowledge may be demonstrated through training, education, and/or experience.
Full telework benefits permitted within commuting distance of TNC’s Miami office. Up to 20% travel required.
