Position HighlightsThis is a teaching position with the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences for semester within Summer 2023. Instructors will design lessons and teach material related to our specific courses within Earth systems science, with specific focus on water, weather, and climate. The design of the course lessons will align with the curriculum already defined by the faculty within the department. Pedagogical techniques will be utilized to help students learn the material, and assessments will be utilized to evaluate them on their knowledge.This is for teaching one 3-unit course during Summer 2023. Two hires for two different classes for the department. May increase above 8 hours per week, but not exceed 19.6 hours, depending on which class you will be teaching.The University of Arizona has been recognized for our innovative work-life programs. Duties & ResponsibilitiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Updating and teaching lessons through D2L and other software associated with that learning management system.Holding drop-in office hours via Zoom for at least 1 hour per week and being open to hold other Zoom sessions outside of those hours as needed by the students.Responding via email or on discussion boards with 24 hours on business days, and 48 hours on weekendsGrading students’ assessments no later than 5 days after submission and updating in D2L.Providing helpful feedback to foster learning and skill improvement aligned with assignment grading rubrics and the course learning outcomes.Communicating frequently with studentsUphold an environment that is supportive and inclusive, and promotes learning and growth for everyone.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of water, weather, and climate at the undergraduate levelExcellent organization skillsAbility to communicate clearly, respectfully, and promptly.Desire to help all students, at any level, succeed.Prior knowledge of utilizing D2L
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in the realm of Earth and/or Environmental Sciences AND currently working toward a graduate degree in Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, or higher.
Preferred QualificationsPrevious teaching experience, either as a preceptor, teaching assistant, or full instructor.
