CMCC Position

Data analyst

(Deadline: March 4th, 2023)

The CMCC Foundation is a scientific research center on climate change and its interactions with the environment, the society, the world of business and policy makers. Our work aims to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment and develop strategies for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.

Our Division of Regional Models and geo-Hydrological Impacts (REMHI) is looking for a new position of data analyst, to support the hydraulic/hydrological modelling research team in exploiting research activities and delivering research papers for peer-reviewed international journals.

The job location is CMCC REMHI Site in Caserta (CE), Italy. However, the activities can be exploited in remote.

We are looking for a talented, motivated and proactive early-career or post-doc scientist. The primary purpose for this position is to undertake the analysis of possible relationships between drinking water consumption data and climate/weather information, with the final goal of assessing the potential impacts of climate change on residential water consumption, to support the management of future freshwater resources. Different time scales (hourly, daily, monthly, annual) will be explored as well as dependences on different climate variables (related to temperature as well as precipitation). The main outcome is a prediction model for water demand based on climate information. To exploit this activity, the desired qualifications are:

  • M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) and/or PhD in Civil/Environmental/Data Sciences or Engineering;
  • Expertise in data mining of large database: knowledge of data analysis approaches (statistical, empirical or A.I.-based, etc.), tools (correlation analysis, multivariate regression, etc.) and software/language (Matlab, R, Python, etc.);
  • Scientific knowledge in the field of water supply and distribution infrastructures. Lack of this knowledge can be replaced by experience of pattern detection/analysis in similar fields (e.g. electricity consumption);
  • Experience in writing research papers for peer-reviewed journals;
  • Ability to work both independently and in team;
  • The position is set in the framework of a Cooperation with an Italian Water Management Agency: knowledge of Italian language will be appreciated. Otherwise, fluency in English is required.

Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.

Some fiscal benefit could be applied for repatriated workers or foreign researches/professors, having the requirements defined by Dlgs 147/2015 (for repatriates) or Dl 78/2010 (for foreigners).

We offer the opportunity to join our team through a temporary contract of 6 months starting as soon as possible.  Total salary over the period ranging is from 12 to 16 K Euros, depending on qualification and experience.

This job announcement is a public invitation to express interest for the above mentioned CMCC Position.
