Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute), established in 2008, is a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing practical solutions to tackle a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues in India and the neighbouring countries. WASH Institute aims to build the capacities of the sector through programs that provide a) training and academic courses, b) technical advisory and consultancy services, and c) grassroots community WASH programs. WASH Institute has been conducting extensive training programs for government functionaries, private sector professionals, NGOs, and other practitioners with the objective of effective WASH implementation across the country. In addition, our academic campus offers Diploma and Masters level courses in sanitation, under affiliation to a leading university. As part of our WASH Advisory program, we provide PMU services to central, state, and local governments in both urban and rural areas to support implementation of SBM, JJM, and AMRUT schemes. Our community WASH programs are currently ongoing in 14 locations across 8 states in India.

We are a multi-disciplinary team that tackle complex multi-faceted problems of behaviour change, quality of service, and sustainability of WASH interventions. We are looking for experienced professionals to work with us towards our visions of “a world where all the communities have access to safe, protected and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services, with improved hygiene practices”. We are looking for experienced professionals to join our vibrant team under our Technical Advisory program.

The position will be part of a team providing handholding support to selected state governments in converging the resources, technical know-how, best practices and acting as a bridge between SBM Grameen & SBM Urban initiatives.

Desired Qualification and Experience – B.Tech. or M.Tech. in Civil/ Environment Engineering/ M.Sc. Environmental Science or Masters in Planning with 3 to 7 years’ experience in Sanitation sector (Wastewater & FSM planning, design, and engineering)

Experience of working with Government in TSU/PMU (SBM Urban/SBM Grameen) setup will be an added advantage.

The Candidate should possess excellent computer skills in MS Office and relevant applications .

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in Rapid assessments of districts/peri urban areas to determine sanitation infrastructure gaps (STPs, non-sewered solutions, Faecal Sludge Management, Greywater Management) and development of concept solutions.
• Provide Technical Assistance and support to the landscaping exercise on the existing Faecal Sludge management & Grey Water Management systems and bring to fore key lessons to the envisaged in ODF Plus under SBM-Gramin 2.0. Also assist in documenting existing user practices, best practices, innovations and prevailing service models in the state and districts under ODF Plus initiatives.
• Develop Tool kits, SoPs, Guidelines, Templates, Model DPRs and Standard drawings to support practitioners in choosing appropriate mix of interventions and implementing them.
• Develop model RFPs, concession agreements, and templates and ensure consistent application by Districts/Peri-Urban areas as part of SBM 2.0 implementation.
• Engage various stakeholders in governments to obtain data, disseminate information as required.
• Assist in capacity building and knowledge management and provide technical inputs to design of communication programs as required.
• Designing / developing, reviewing, and assisting in executing sanitation systems as required in various districts and peri-urban areas.
• Support efforts to develop, identify, and provide solutions to implement innovations in sanitation technology and assist in developing DPRs, technical specifications and standards, especially around non-sewered solution, Faecal Sludge Management and Greywater Management.
• Liaison and closely coordinate with State & District officials and other key actors.
• Facilitate convergence of financial and technical resources and sharing of technical know-how and best practices
• Organize offline and online platforms to bring about convergence between SBMU and SBMG
• Liason and network between Districts & ULBs to leverage resources for management of faecal waste and greywater
• Monitor the Rurban convergence efforts and FSM & GWM efforts being undertaken in state
• Facilitate customized development of IEC/BCC content on FSM & GWM
• Any other work as required by the State or WASH Institute.

Desired Skill Set:

• Rich experience on Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) & Greywater Management.
• Strong technical understanding with ability to collect data, analyse infrastructure gaps, and present possible solution scenarios to support decision makers in sustainable sanitation.
• Good understanding and experience of small size faecal sludge/Grey water treatment technologies and their selection for appropriate contexts is required.
• Familiarity with digital methods (GIS) and packages (Sewer CAD etc.,) is highly desirable.
• Problem solving skills from a techno-economic point of view will be preferred.
• Experience required Relevant documented experience of minimum of 3 to 5 years in handling Urban/Rural Sanitation, FSM, Greywater Management, environmental issues etc. in reputed concerns/organizations.

Salary Package: As per Industry Standard and as per qualifications & work experience of candidate.

Placement: The selected candidate will be on boarded with WASH Institute and posted to work in States Missions.
