Overview
We are looking for an Environmental Engineer excited to secure safe drinking water in Vermont, through direct collaboration with public drinking water systems and engineering consultants on drinking water infrastructure. You will be part of the Agency of Natural Resources, Drinking Water program, and will be working closely with a team of engineers and scientists to review and optimize drinking water design plans through research, analysis, and site visits.

• You like helping others. You are patient and level-headed when providing technical and regulatory assistance to Vermont’s public drinking water systems and their consultants, and;

The engineering team has two licensed engineers, and we will actively support you in your pursuit of a professional engineering license through collaboration, training and mentorship.
The Agency of Natural Resources and Drinking Water Program has an employee-friendly telework policy, requiring staff (once trained) to work from the office as little as a few days a month. The rest of the days, staff are welcome to work in the office as they wish or work from their productive home offices. The position is limited service due to external funding which is expected to be renewed, with the potential to become long-term, and when considering salary, remember that benefits is worth ~30% of your total compensation.

Environmental Factors
Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering AND two (2) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil or mechanical engineering AND four (4) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in any field of engineering AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
OR
One (1) year or more of experience as an Environmental Engineer IV OR two years or more as an Environmental Engineer III.
OR
Vermont Registration as a Professional Engineer the fields of civil, civil/sanitary, environmental or sanitary engineering AND four (4) years or more of professional experience in environmental, sanitary, water resources, chemical, civil or air pollution engineering.
