Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Infrastructure Team Lead, the Water Resources Engineer will:

  • Review, analyze and make recommendations on applications made under Conservation Halton’s regulation (Ontario Regulation 162/06) with respect to issues related to hydraulics, hydrology, geomorphology, geotechnical engineering and erosion and sediment controls
  • Review, analyze and make recommendations for applications/projects received under the Environmental Assessment Act with respect to riverine hazards associated with flooding and erosion; hydrologic impacts to wetlands; other hazardous lands; stormwater management, as it relates to hazards; and erosion and sediment controls
  • Participate in corporate and inter-agency task forces, technical review teams and/or steering committees
  • Undertake site inspections and compliance monitoring as required prior, during and post construction
  • Assist with the development of policies, procedures and guidelines for the administration and implementation of Ontario Regulation 162/06
  • Assist in the review of natural hazards mapping
  • Participate in the preparation of expert planning and technical teams’ advice and opinions on behalf of Conservation Halton at the Ontario Land Tribunal or other tribunals
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with developers, consultants, municipal, provincial and federal partners and other stakeholders in order to deliver Conservation Halton’s programs related to water resources engineering
  • Liaise with internal departments to assist in other Conservation Halton initiatives
  • Keep informed with updated standards, technologies, and best management practices related to natural hazards and stormwater management
  • Perform duties in accordance with Conservation Halton’s safety policies and procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Such other related duties as assigned by the Regional Infrastructure Team Lead

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate from University degree program in Water Resources or Civil Engineering or related program from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Designated as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), licensed in the Province of Ontario
  • CISEC certification (or equivalent) an asset
  • 5 years relevant development review/design experience
  • Working knowledge of Conservation Authorities ActEnvironmental Assessment Act, and other related legislation an asset
  • Experience in hydrology, hydraulics, and geomorphology
  • Working knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Knowledge of principles, design, policies, and procedures related to stormwater and watershed management
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, and construction an asset
  • Experience developing, fostering, and sustaining effective and positive relationships, both internal and external to the organization
  • Ability to work with computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g., file maintenance; word processing; presentation and GIS software; spreadsheet applications; information input and retrieval, etc.)
