Offer Description
The intensity and frequency of flow intermittency are increasing also in the historically permanent rivers of the Po river district. Rivers with summer low flows and subject to water withdrawals for irrigation are particularly affected by flow intermittency. Flow intermittency has significant effects on biological communities and more in general on river functioning and quality. The main aims of the research project are to study the effect of flow intermittency on aquatic macroinvertebrates in the Po river district and to provide guidelines on the management of intermittent rivers. The candidate will be directly involved in: collection of macroinvertebrates, identification of organisms based on morphology and DNA metabarcoding, data analysis and validation of indices for the evaluation of the effects of flow intermittency, drafting of technical reports.
