Operating from within Water Resource Management, South Region, you will be involved in leading, managing and mentoring a team, deciding complex water entitlement dealings and overseeing access to water in South Region, including in the Queensland Murray Darling Basin. You will manage business critical projects and activities and address emergent service delivery issues. You will have a team of approximately 23 people located across the Toowoomba, Warwick, Goondiwindi and St George offices.

In this critical management role, you will manage, mentor, and coach staff to ensure the necessary skills and motivation exist to respond to service delivery requirements and perform to a high level of skill and expertise.

Working in the complex environment of water management in the Queensland Murray Darling Basin, you will anticipate issues, manage risks and provide timely advice and prepare reports, briefing notes, submissions and correspondence.

You will lead a team of approximately 23 staff across 4 regional centres: 

– providing advice to stakeholders, industry and community on entitlements to take water and the water management framework, 

– assessing applications for water or watercourse related entitlements in accordance with the Water Act 2000, Planning Act 2016 and subordinate legislation; 

– actively managing access to water during flow events and reporting on compliance with flow conditions,

– reviewing water resource condition and trend, making announced entitlements, and applying limitations as necessary to protect the resource, the environment and other water users, 

– managing water use and entitlement holder accounts within entitlement and reporting on water availability, and 

– provision of technical advice on water related development applications.
