The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board has an opening for a permanent, full-time Environmental Scientist position in the Toxics Cleanup Division.

The position is located at 1515 Clay Street, Suite 1400, Oakland, CA 94612.

Duties:

Under the close supervision of a Senior Engineering Geologist in the Toxics Cleanup Division, the incumbent will manage environmental investigations and cleanup projects by scoping, planning, tracking, communicating, and revising schedules to ensure workload is completed and deadlines area met; establish, adapt, and meet milestones and completion dates of assigned tasks and projects. Oversee the investigation and remediation of sites with polluted soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor air, surface water, and sediment. Evaluate the acceptability of remediation workplans and completion reports for feasibility studies, contaminant treatment technologies, cost estimates, performance determinations, vapor mitigation systems, and environmental investigations based on applicable laws, regulations, policies, and best practices. Using environmental science knowledge and technical expertise, analyze environmental data and other information to evaluate compliance with Water board directives, the need for further investigation and remediation, climate change impacts and wetland restoration, potential enforcement actions, and case closure. Communicate orally and in writing via email, written reports, project correspondence, power point presentations and meetings with peers, supervisors, management, and external stakeholders. Provide status of tasks or projects, share technical and regulatory information, seek input, and facilitate and support decisions. Using engineering knowledge and technical expertise, prepare written requirements, cleanup and abatement orders, reports, comments, approval letters. Work collaboratively in groups internally and with external stakeholders to develop technical, regulatory, and procedural recommendations for projects or issues related to their expertise and assignments. Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
