Role

Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation has an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in water management in the Province. We are looking for a skilled geospatial data analyst to support the Basin Water Management section in its mandate to enable continuous improvement of the irrigation sector in water conservation, efficiency and productivity. Ensuring sustainable water management systems and practices is a critical factor for Alberta’s irrigated agriculture industry.

As the Geospatial Systems Analyst, you will ensure the delivery of quality geospatial system services and products in support of Alberta’s Irrigation Strategy, managing increased conservation, efficiency and productivity of Alberta’s water resources. The successful candidate will bring high technical knowledge and expertise to deliver accurate and functional geospatial systems databases and applications. Functions of this role ensure delivery of programs and projects, including infrastructure rehabilitation and irrigation development feasibility assessments. This role supports the Government of Alberta, the Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation, and irrigation sector decision-makers in making informed decisions for sustainable irrigation water management in Alberta’s irrigated watersheds. 

Your strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, will be important in building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal team members, colleagues, management, and external stakeholders. Excellent leadership, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to your success in this role.

Responsibilities and activities include:

  • Managing the maintenance and enhancement of geospatial business databases in support of irrigation infrastructure programs and water management analysis in the business area
  • Maintaining geospatial applications and related products per Government of Alberta standards
  • Maintaining and enhancing business area web-based map server applications to enhance geospatial data accessibility and information packaging
  • Conducting advanced technical upgrades and maintenance of geospatial business data server applications and supporting development of new geospatial applications 

Qualifications

The minimum requirements for this role:

  • Related 4 year university degree
  • Minimum of two years related experience

or 

  • Related two-year diploma 
  • Minimum of four years related experience. 

Related education includes computer science, information technology, or a related discipline with a specialization in GIS. Related experience includes developing and maintaining geospatial information technology databases and applications.

  • An understanding of water management conveyance infrastructure and irrigated agriculture in Alberta

Salary

$2,678.67 to $3,677.93 biweekly ($69,913to $95,993 per year)

This position is a permanent, full-time position with the standard hours of work as 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This position is an independent role with little travel required.
