Water and Habitat Project Managers
What we do
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities
As a Water and Habitat Project Manager working for the ICRC, you will be planning, designing and implementing public health engineering projects for victims of armed conflict. Being part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for all aspects of project, program and people management, to ensure their successful delivery within constraints of scope, quality, time and budget. You will be in charge of developing technical design, procurement, implementation and commissioning of projects, including reporting, and will manage relationships with the stakeholders involved (e.g. service providers, authorities, contractors, etc.).You will be accountable for:
Outputs delivery
Design of projects according to needs and demands
Implementation in terms of quality, costs, timelines, sustainability, etc.
Coordination and collaboration with other ICRC departments and external stakeholders
Management of allocated resources (human, finance, suppliers, etc.)
Currently we are mainly looking for project managers specialized in essential services in urban settings (water, wastewater, energy, construction) who are able to assess, plan, design and supervise projects in these contexts.
Desired profile and skills
University degree in architecture, urban planning or engineering: civil, structural, electro-mechanical, hydrogeology, environmental, energy or related fields
Minimum three years of professional experience in the management of Public Health Essential Services projects, including people and project management
Experience of working overseas for humanitarian or development organizations a strong asset
Strongly motivated by humanitarian work and able to perform under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment
Very good command of English. Fluency in another ICRC working language (French, Spanish, Russian or Arabic) is a strong asset
Confirmed team leader, with strong level of intercultural understanding
Excellent organisational skills, able to prioritise a complex workload and to work autonomously as needed
Our operational and field constraints
In line with the principle of neutrality, the ICRC does not assign personnel to a country of which they are nationals
Candidates must be in good health and will have to do a medical check-up prior to departure in the field
Candidates must possess a driving licence (for manual transmission vehicles)
Candidates must be prepared to accept postings of minimum 12 months of duration
Candidates must be prepared to accept unaccompanied postings (i.e. no spouse, partner, children or dependents) for at least the first 24 months
Please note that this is a pool selection. If your profile is validated to join the pool, you will not be offered a contract by ICRC until we offer you a specific mission/assignment.
