About the role

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced hydraulic modeller to join our Environmental Water Planning team to lead our hydraulic modelling work program informing the management of water for the environment across the NSW Murray-Darling Basin.   This is a challenging role involving large scale hydraulic modelling projects across multiple river valleys.   The role involves developing project plans, overseeing project delivery, technical leadership and management of the hydraulic modelling team.  This is a rewarding role helping us achieve better environmental outcomes for our rivers and wetlands across large parts of NSW.

About You

The successful applicant will be an experienced hydraulic modeller with experience leading large modelling projects, implementing best practice modelling process, developing junior staff members and managing projects to successful completion. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator, self-motivated, strategic, and keen to work collaboratively with many staff across DPE and other NSW government agencies.

The successful applicant for this position will be required to:

  • Lead Environment and Heritage (E&H) input into the development and implementation of modelling platforms to inform contemporary environmental water management and decision making to improve delivery of river and wetland health outcomes.
  • Develop E&H water modelling and analytical capacity to inform policy and planning.
  • Build organisational understanding and uptake of contemporary modelling platforms and scope requirements for additional E&H modelling capacity.
  • Lead the implementation of modelling platforms to inform and support environmental water management.
  • Develop and present scientific and technical information to explain complex processes clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Manage scientific project implementation, including monitoring project plans, coordinating resources and managing budgets.
